The government is also planning to invest in the opening of wide-area domestic medical device education and training support centers in Seongnam and Incheon by 2025, drawing keen attention to the creation of safe use of medical devices and localization of large medical devices.
The Bastian Foundation held the 11th Medical Device Innovation Seminar on the 27th. Kim Kyung-min, head of the Medtronic Innovation Center, a Korean research center for global medical device company Medtronic, and Kim Ki-jin, CEO of 3D MediVision, who runs the 3D camera-based veterinary training center VGTC, introduced the importance of medical device education and current status of medical device education for each company.

MIC stands for Medtronic Innovation Center and is a medical device R&D and education center operated by Medtronic, a global medical device company, in Songdo, Korea.
It provides medical personnel with training programs for proper use of medical devices, provides solutions using medtronic products, and provides educational programs to enhance their understanding and capacity building.
The center consists of Wet Lab for open and minimally invasive surgery training, Hybrid Lab for radiation equipment training, ICU Lab for emergency situations, and Surgical Synergy Lab for orthopedic medical devices training.
Kim Kyung-min, head of the center, said, "Most medical field education is conducted in apprenticeship, so it is true that intern or resident-level medical staff are provided with a limited practice environment. Since the opening of the center, our education programs have been linked to the specialist course."
According to Kim, the center was visited by 2,550 medical staff last year, and the center provided 151 educational programs.
3D MediVision 'VGTC', a link between OTT and practice for professionals only.
3D Medivision, a professional educational platform developer based on 3D video technology, operates an online and offline convergence education model through the connection of domestic and foreign educational institutions such as 3D video device development, its own OTT platform, and VGTC.
"VETERFILX," a self-developed medical OTT platform, was developed for veterinary education purposes and allows students to take 3D video contents such as veterinary anatomy without time and space restrictions.
CEO Kim Ki-jin said that such virtual environment theory education leads to practice in the company's training center, VGTC. It also added that this includes the company's value of expanding the educational system centered on apprenticeship educators.
CEO Kim said, "The type of medical education we pursue is centered on educators," and explained, "This led to the development of a platform that can use medical devices and review education contents without time and space constraints and lead to practice."
Medical Device Training...Essential to Localization Challenges
Education is the key element of localization of medical devices in Korea. This is because by using domestic medical devices at the educational stage, it can naturally lead to entry into domestic medical devices in the clinical field.
In response, related ministries such as the Ministry of Health and Welfare and the Korea Health Industry Promotion Agency selected Incheon Metropolitan City (Incheon Techno Park) and Seongnam City (Seongnam Industry Promotion Agency) as local governments dedicated to education and training of Korean medical devices.
Seongnam City and Incheon Metropolitan City Association of Gyeonggi Province, which were selected for the wide-area domestic medical device education and training support center project, will receive 12.5 billion won each over five years, and △ operate education and training programs for △ establishment of medical device suitability evaluation infrastructure △ permanent exhibition.
